Distribution- the role
The distributor brings the film to the market, it is like a business procedure, they have to promote the film well enough to their target audience to be able to get their attention.
The distributor needs to find the USP of the film known as 'The hook'.
They have to look at the best time to distribute the film, and look at what other films are releasing at that time espically if it is a blockbuster, because then it will be a competition.
They do film research to help define their target audience, after they find their target audience they have to find an appropiate budget for the film. High concept blockbuster films usually have a release date in mind.
Distribution- the campaign
They have to make the film stand out, they promote the films through posters, TV's and books.
They also use internet elements in promoting the film, by making a offical website on their film.
They also have to create a different font for the title to create a look that the audience will recognize when they see the font and text.
Making a poster is the first part of the campaign, then the trailer is made which has to have the right imapct. They put reviews in film magazines e.g. Empire.
They have to track their film and see if the audience are wanting to see the film. They also use advanced screening movies which is a key strategy. They also always have an opening weekend from Friday to Sunday.
Exhibiton
In 2007, cinema rose to a higher level, location and cinema screening are crutial part off success. An atmostphere needs to be created around cinema. 75% polled usually do not know the cinema they just left. Cinema is going to progress from 3D cinema live cinema.
Privacy
Piracy effects the exhibition, it also creates a loss of revenue and employment. It stops development in future films. 99.9% of pirate films are bad quality. Due to technology becoming quicker and developing faster, becoming more speedy when downloading is has become easier to share files over the internet.
